Meet Regional Manager, Nikki

Can you describe your journey into early years?

My passion for early years started at a young age, stemming from watching my mother as a childminder. I went to college from school and studied the NVQ2 in childcare and education. I quickly realised that I had made a life choice, and this was exactly what I wanted to do! After successfully completing my qualification, I found a role with a small, independent nursery owner who put me on a level 3 apprenticeship. I was supported both personally and professionally and my apprenticeship was a dream. I worked hard, 45 hours a week and achieved my qualification within 12 months. This opened the door for many more opportunities. Nursery nurse, to room leader, Deputy then manager – I ventured into an early year’s specialist role & I am now a Regional Operations Director for Grandir UK.

What support do you get from your employer?

So much. I have an incredibly supportive line manager, HR business partner, finance team and regional support. Quarterly reviews keep me on target to achieve both professional and personal goals.

What do you look for when recruiting into early years?

Passion! If you have passion, you have it all. A confident and articulate communicator, Teamwork ethic and a smiley face. Everything else can be taught through coaching, mentoring and role modelling!

What support is available to staff joining the service?

We have apprenticeship programmes, internal training programmes such as positive reinforcement, little learners under 2’s training, effective teaching and learning and many more. We have company perks such a Grand Central (huge savings across 100’s of high street stores!) 24/7 wellbeing line, Direct GP services, a thorough 12-week induction programme and much, much more!

Why would you recommend joining the service?

Being able to impact the lives of our future generation is the best feeling in the world. Narrowing the gap in learning for our most vulnerable children and supporting children with SEN to venture into the world confidently, and proud of being their unique and authentic self. Being able to nurture, care and have fun with our children aged 0-5 is one of my favourite things to do. This is not a job, it’s a life choice, and I am so proud and grateful to be a part of making a difference, no matter how small.
