Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs)
With an established record of providing support and promoting growth, Hertfordshire is a hub for teachers and a great place to start your career. A competitive network of professional development assistance, alongside outstanding quality of life, draws hundreds of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) here every year.
In Hertfordshire the application process is easy. Our comprehensive recruitment website allows you to search and apply for posts, and regular job alerts keep you up to date with opportunities in the area. On accepting a job you can begin your search for accommodation
Once here, resources for NQTs are vast within the county. Herts for Learning offers a full programme of training courses for NQTs, from building confidence in the classroom to ongoing career development. We hold three-day induction conferences for primary NQTs for managing the pressures of the year, and three-day intensive subject-specific training for secondary NQTs.
‘The support I received from Herts for Learning in my NQT year was brilliant. Having the chance to have a conversation about the struggles of everyday teaching and reflect on them was very beneficial. This gave me the motivation and confidence to continue and pass the year. The external training and induction mentor gave me useful resources and strategies, as well as helping with all aspects of my teaching, which benefitted the behaviour and progress of my classes.’

We provide the administrational help to register teachers with the appropriate body, and deal with the maintenance of records during induction. We also give support to schools with underperforming NQTs to see where changes can be made.
Continual guidance and an assurance of high-quality training ensure that Hertfordshire's newest teachers feel supported in their first steps in school.
