Appointment of an Assistant Headteacher at Maple Primary School

 

Commencing January for the start of the Spring Term 2021

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Headteacher to work as an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team to support and develop the future of Maple Primary School.  This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic practitioner who is keen to teach the Upper Junior age range, to join a caring and dedicated team who are focused on supporting all of our children to take an active involvement in their learning, promote high expectations and to allow children the opportunities to fulfil their academic, social and emotional potential.

Maple School is a busy, vibrant and successful school that provides a happy, stimulating and safe learning environment for our children.  The staff are a widely skilled, committed and enthusiastic team who have high expectations and believe wholeheartedly in continually developing and improving the school. As our current Headteacher of twenty years will be leaving at Easter, applicants are invited to read the attached letter from the Chair of Governors detailing the succession plans.

As detailed in our Job Description, we are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner (3 days teaching per week) as well as an inspirational leader (2 days management non-contact time per week) who will be a key influence in

Candidates are encouraged to make an appointment to visit and tour the school at a mutually convenient time, either during the summer holidays or at the start of the new academic year in September.

For the initial stage of the selection process, if possible, the Deputy Headteacher would take the opportunity to visit short listed candidates at their current school to observe them teach a lesson of their choice for approximately 30 minutes.

If this were not possible, then the shortlisted candidate would be invited to teach a 30 minute lesson at Maple School prior to the Selection Day.

Candidates invited to a Selection Day will be asked to

         1. Lead a discussion with a small group of Year 6 pupils on the subject of transition to secondary school for approximately 15 minutes.   

        2. Give a presentation (max. 15 minutes) on the following topic:

‘What are your views about the priorities and challenges for primary school education over the next 5 years; and what strategies do you think would be most effective in addressing them?’

        3. Formal interview

Selection Days will be held on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th October, 2020.

The post will commence January 2021, for the start of the Spring Term.
