About the role

Chorleywood Primary School's Governing Board is seeking to appoint a Clerk to the governors. If you are familiar with school governance, have excellent administrative and organisational skills and can communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, we'd love to hear from you. The part time role will include 6 evening meetings a year.

The government has very high expectations of school governing boards as they are the strategic leaders of our schools. They are responsible for holding schools to account for continuous improvement to ensure our children get the best education they deserve.

The Clerk to the governing board is a professional and importantly supportive role ensuring governing bodies:

- Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- Oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is spent wisely and purposefully.

The Clerk will be accountable to the governing board and will work closely alongside the Chair of Governors and Headteacher to provide outstanding governance.

We require a highly committed effective professional to:

- Provide administrative support to our Governing Board and Committees
- Organise and co-ordinate the information flow (coordinating timely meeting agendas and papers alongside the Chair and Headteacher to incorporate local authority and DfE issues)
- Provide advice on legislative, procedural, constitutional matters, duties and powers
- Be flexible, adaptable and able to work independently whilst co-ordinating the work of the governing board
- Maintain a register of members of the governing board and of associate members and advise in advance of any upcoming vacancies in the governing board and inform the local authority of any changes.
- Maintain and update committee and general membership records.
- Attend training and briefing events for clerks on a regular basis as part of continued CPD
- Taking and distributing minutes for all the meetings, including who is responsible for actions
- Maintaining a list of, and ensuring compliance with publishing of, the schools policies
- Perform such other tasks as may be determined by the governing board from time to time

- Good knowledge of Word, Excel, and general computing skills

The post is for approximately 90 hours per annum to include the preparation of documentation for each meeting, time to attend meetings and time to write up the minutes from each meeting (please see attached job description for full details).  If additional hours are required to complete these tasks, additional hours may be claimed in agreement with the Head teacher.

Two full governing board meetings are held each school term, for a maximum of 2 hours per meeting; usually between the hours of 7-9pm.

In addition to the full governing board meetings a total of 8 scheduled sub-committee meetings are usually held during the daytime in each academic year.
