About the role
Watling View is a maintained special school in St Albans, in the county of Hertfordshire. The school caters for up to 92 pupils aged 2-19, with a wide range of complex and profound learning difficulties. These include severe autism, complex medical conditions, physical and mobility difficulties, as well as severe developmental delay.
At the heart of Watling View's curriculum is the belief that all pupils are entitled to a stimulating, personalised curriculum where each and every pupil can learn, develop and make progress. We strive to ensure the curriculum is broad, balanced and flexible for all pupils. The school is separated into the EYFS department, Lower/Middle School and Upper School. The curriculum is based on a thematic approach and is designed to ensure personalisation for individuals and so that each and every pupil makes progress in all areas of their learning and development.
The Governing Body wish to appoint a new Headteacher with the skills and vision to build on Watling View’s current success and achievements.
You ideally will have experience of senior leadership in special schools dealing with PMLD and SLD and a good understanding and awareness of what is required to be a headteacher of this type of school. You will need to be a great role model and have the ability to lead and manage change, and to build relationships with a wide variety of external partners. You will share our passion and belief that children, their learning and the development of their potential must be at the heart of all school decisions.
Watling View can offer you a dedicated and committed team of staff and governors and amazing children and their extended families/carers. You will also have the opportunity to play a key strategic role in driving the school forward from Good to Outstanding and to continue your own professional development.
