About the role
Play Assistants required for a specialist holiday playscheme for children 5-16yrs with learning disabilities, held during the Easter and Summer holidays. We are a charity - part of Hertsmere Mencap - and provide daytime respite to families during the school holidays. The playscheme is held in a school in Borehamwood. We organise many activities and also go out on trips.
The Easter scheme runs from 6th - 15th April (excluding weekends/bank holidays). Hours are 9.30am - 3.45pm Monday to Friday and are worked by arrangement; staff are not required to work the whole scheme but this is preferable at Easter and we require at least 1-2 weeks (or an equivalent number of days) during the summer scheme. All working days are arranged well in advance.
Staff are required to care for children on a 1:1 basis, including supporting their needs, personal care where necessary, and helping children to have a fun time within a caring and safe environment and within a great team of carers.
Training is provided on 6th April (compulsory).
A DBS check will be carried out for successful applicants.
Essential requirements: some experience of working with children, preferably children with special needs. Safeguarding training (will be offered if necessary). The ability to be part of a team, to 'muck in' and to take instructions where appropriate.
Desirable: have or be working towards a qualification in childcare; NVQ1 or equivalent. Or have some experience of working with children/special needs.
Salary = £8.21-£8.72/hr, with the possibility of promotion to Senior Play Assistant.
Please apply online only to email@example.com. Please do not contact the school directly since our staff are only there during the school holidays.
