About the role

We are seeking to appoint a special individual to join our team.

Are you dedicated to ensuring school works for all children and resilient enough to keep going, even when it’s difficult?  Then we have a role available for supporting a child on a 1-1 basis with social, emotional and mental health difficulties to succeed in education.  You will require patience, flexibility and be committed to helping children develop as independent and confident individuals. It would be desirable, but not essential, that you have experience in this type of role.

Beechfield  School is a friendly place to work. We are part of the Inclusive Multi Academy Trust which was established in 2016 with a vision to Inspire and nurture our children and their community to be the very best that they can be.  The Trust consists of three schools; Beechfield, Cherry Tree and Laurance Haines.  Our nurturing Trust ethos places a strong emphasis of the development and wellbeing of staff.

Our recent Ofsted report (May 2022) states "Pupils are enthusiastic about school. They experience a broad and rich curriculum that extends their interests and develops their aspirations. Pupils take pride in their work and achieve well. From Nursery to Year 6, they are well prepared for their next stage of education."

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be able to work closely with the class teacher, the SENCo, the SEN team and external advisors.  You should be keen to learn, be able to work on your own initiative, and carry out advice consistently.

The successful candidate will have a GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths (C or above) and a high standard of written and spoken English.

In return we offer the successful candidate:

  • A positive and caring working environment
  • A friendly, dedicated, and supportive staff team
  • A well-resourced working environment
  • A strong commitment to CPD with quality mentoring and development support
  • A healthcare plan which includes private medical care as well as well-being care, physiotherapy, stress counselling and lifestyle health screening days

The role is for 20 hours a week, e.g.  Monday to Friday 9.30am - 2.30pm with 1 hour unpaid lunch break, term time plus Inset days. The hours would be discussed at interview.

This is a fixed term contract until funding ceases or should the pupil leave the school.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Record Declaration Form prior to interview.

When recruiting and selecting staff, the Trust is required to comply with all relevant employment legislation to ensure we are recruiting within the law as well as complying with the Trust’s Equality Policy.  The Selection Criteria document is critical in the process and sets out the requirements which the person appointed should have in order to perform the duties of the post satisfactorily and against which applicants will be assessed.  The selection criteria will be used throughout the recruitment process as an objective test of assessing candidates at shortlisting, test and interview stages. Shortlisting will be completed by assessing against the advertised person specification. Our interviews will always include relevant questions relating to child protection and/or safeguarding, and will usually involve a child centred task.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible as the school reserves the right to close the advert early should we feel able to appoint an appropriate candidate.
