Description

Layston School is in a beautiful rural situation on the outskirts of, and overlooking, Buntingford. The school is spacious and well resourced with a large school field and creative play areas. We have on site a forest school, wild life and pond area, allotment and sensory garden.  We run a nurture group accredited by the National Nurture Group Association.

Our school is a co-educational, voluntary controlled, Church of England school. This Church connection and Christian ethos are important to the school today. The three pillars of Christian ethos, Forest School and Nurture underpin all we do enabling each child to reach their unique potential within our respectful and caring school community.

Our age range is 4 to 9 years. Each year, we have a maximum intake of 30, so children are always taught in single age classes. Admission arrangements are managed by Herts County Council.

We are part of a three tier system, which comprises five first schools. These First Schools feed into two Middle Schools, which are Edwinstree School in Buntingford and Ralph Sadleir School in Puckeridge. These in turn normally send children to Freman College Upper School, at the age of 13 years.
