Description
Ponsbourne St. Mary’s C of E Primary is a small village primary school in Newgate Street Village, not far from Hertford, Cheshunt, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar. We have 106 children on the school roll, aged from 3 to 11. Our Christian ethos and values are very important to us and permeate all that we do. Children are successfully taught in four mixed-age classes and this helps to create a family atmosphere within the school. There has been a school on this site since 1847 and we have beautiful grounds, which include our own woodland area. A specialist Forest Schools teacher takes the children each week and we make good use of our outdoor area across other areas of the curriculum. The staff at Ponsbourne St. Mary’s work very well as a team and we are continually developing and improving our practice. Having a growth mindset is extremely important to all our community. Behaviour for learning is exemplary. Drama and music are strengths of the school and at Christmas all classes present high-quality performances to parents. Our active and friendly parent group, Friends of the School, raise money for the school with fun and creative events. Wellbeing of the staff is a priority and our recent SIAMS inspection noted, 'Staff speak highly of how school leaders care for their wellbeing and workload, making them feel respected and valued. As one summed up, ‘This school gives you a hug every day.’
