Bushey Primary Education Federation is looking to appoint an SEN support assistant to work at both Bushey & Oxhey Infant School and Bushey Manor Junior School.

The role is a part time role, term time only, of 20 hours per week. The working times are 10am to 2pm.

The role will largely include some ‘one to one’ and small group support of children on the autistic spectrum,  Knowledge of Makaton and PECs would be an advantage, but is not necessary.

This post will be based at Bushey and Oxhey Infant School in the first instance, but as well as joining the school team, you will also become a part of the ECM team (Every Child Matters Team), working with your counterparts at the other school within our federation, in a weekly team around the child model.

We would like to hear from you if you are:

  • Inclusive, passionate, and principled
  • Able to work under the direction of class teachers and our federation pastoral leader, but also able use your own initiative to make things happen, be creative and problem solve
  • Able to support children and their families with their learning and emotional needs
    Not remotely phased by challenging behaviours in a dysregulated young child
  • Experienced in managing behaviour in a positive, therapeutic and inclusive way – familiarity with the a Therapeutic approach would also be useful
  •  Trained in working with children with Autism, or willing to undertake training, particularly in the areas of PECs, Makaton or TEACCH
  • NVQ qualitifed or willing to undertake training

And you are the kind of person who is:

  • Positive and flexible
  • Able to work purposefully and collaboratively with children, young people and families
  • Well organised and able to work co-operatively with other professionals, including schools, wider children's services teams and voluntary sector organisation
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and energetic, with a strong commitment to teamwork
  • Trained in First Aid, or willing to undertake training
  •  Able to communicate well both verbally and in writing with children and adults alike
  • Able to effectively and efficiently manage your time to meet the requirements of your job description
