Assistant Headteacher at Shepherd Primary School

We are looking to appoint a new Assistant Headteacher for Curriculum, Teaching & Learning, due to our current Assistant Head relocating.

We are looking for an Assistant Headteacher who is first and foremost an inspirational teacher who will create an inspiring and stimulating learning environment in their own Key Stage 2 classroom. They will have a nurturing and caring approach, in keeping with the ethos and values of Shepherd Primary School.

Ofsted (June 2023) noted that 'Leaders have an ambitious curriculum in place. Teachers know the breadth of knowledge they need to teach pupils. Leaders have ensured that this knowledge builds year on year from as soon as pupils start school.' Our new Assistant Head will have a secure knowledge of the curriculum, high expectations and a strong commitment to children’s learning and progress.

The successful candidate will have the ability to lead curriculum developments across the school, working as part of our supportive and dedicated team of staff. Ofsted (June 2023) noted that ‘Staff enjoy working here. They appreciate how leaders consider staff workload and well-being. Staff value the professional development they receive.'

For the role of Assistant Headteacher, we welcome applications from candidates who have experience teaching across the primary phase and who also have established leadership experience, possibly in some of the following areas:

  • Improving the quality of teaching and learning

  • Leading on curriculum development/improvement

  • Key Stage leadership

  • Conducting Performance Management

  • Leading a team (e.g. Teaching Assistants or as a Key Stage Leader)

  • Leading CPD for teachers and other staff

  • Interpreting school performance data

  • Contributing to and driving school improvement as a member of a school team

  • Evidence of a whole school responsibility and experience of turning policy into effective and successful practice (e.g. Pupil Premium)

  • Leadership of a significant subject area including responsibility for raising standards across the whole school.
