Baby Room Leader
We are seeking an experienced, dedicated, and inspiring Baby Room Leader to lead our newly opening Baby Room at our Hampson Park setting in Stevenage. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Early Years professional who is passionate about providing exceptional care for babies while leading and developing a high-performing team.
As Baby Room Leader, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the baby room, ensuring the highest standards of care, education, safeguarding, and wellbeing for children aged 0–2 years. You will lead by example, supporting your team to deliver outstanding practice in line with the EYFS framework while creating a nurturing, stimulating, and safe environment where every child can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Leading the day-to-day operation of the baby room, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and well-organised environment
Managing and supporting the baby room team through effective leadership, coaching, and role modelling of best practice
Planning, overseeing, and delivering engaging, age-appropriate activities that support babies' learning and development
Ensuring all children receive high-quality care, including feeding, sleep routines, personal care, and emotional support
Acting as a key person for a group of children, completing observations, assessments, learning journals, and next steps in line with the EYFS
Monitoring children's progress and supporting staff to provide tailored learning experiences
Building positive, professional relationships with parents and carers, providing regular feedback and supporting smooth transitions
Maintaining accurate records, including registers, accident and incident reports, medication records, and GDPR-compliant documentation
Ensuring all safeguarding, health and safety, hygiene, and welfare requirements are consistently met
Supporting recruitment, induction, supervision, and mentoring of staff within the baby room
Working closely with the Nursery Management Team to continually improve practice and maintain high standards across the setting
This Role Is Ideal for Someone Who:
Holds a Level 3 Early Years qualification (or above)
Has a minimum of 2 years' experience working with children aged 0–2 years, including experience in a senior or leadership role
Has a thorough understanding of the EYFS, child development, and best practice in baby care
Demonstrates excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills
Is confident in mentoring, motivating, and supporting colleagues to achieve outstanding practice
Builds strong, trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues
Has excellent knowledge of safeguarding, inclusion, equality, and child welfare
Maintains confidentiality and adheres to GDPR policies
Is passionate about delivering exceptional Early Years education and care and creating an inspiring environment for babies and staff alike
Desirable
Previous experience as a Room Leader or Deputy Room Leader
Current Paediatric First Aid qualification
Current Basic Food Hygiene certificate
Experience supporting inspections and quality improvement initiatives
