About the role

How Flexible Working OperatesThis is a flexible zero-hours bank role. There are no fixed or guaranteed hours, days, assignments or income. Work is offered according to school need and your availability; there may be periods when no work is available. The school is not obliged to offer work, and you are not obliged to accept work offered. Once you accept an assignment, we expect reliable attendance and prompt communication if your circumstances change.

Potential assignments depend on pupil needs and staffing requirements. Availability will be discussed during recruitment and kept up to date. Flexibility relates to accepting available work; each agreed assignment has specified attendance times and duties. Joining the bank does not guarantee regular work, a minimum income or a permanent post.

You may work for other employers, while maintaining confidentiality and discussing any relevant safeguarding concerns or conflicts of interest. You are not expected to be continuously available.

Pay and Written Terms

Pay will relate to work undertaken and applicable statutory entitlements. The school will set out the hourly rate, holiday entitlement and pay arrangements, employment status, pension eligibility, mandatory training arrangements, notice and cancellation terms in writing before you accept the bank agreement. There is no guaranteed annual salary.

Support and Development

You will receive induction and relevant training, with access to a supportive specialist team. Before working with pupils, you will be briefed on safeguarding, individual needs, communication, behaviour support, personal care and relevant risk assessments. Ask for help whenever a task is outside your training or competence.

Southfield’s wider staff benefits are described in the school’s standard recruitment materials. Eligibility for bank staff, including the Employee Assistance Programme and any pension or other schemes, will be confirmed in the written terms; this pack does not promise access to every permanent staff benefit.Job description
