About the role
Join the Barley Barkway First Schools Federation – January 2027
Are you a friendly, enthusiastic and reliable person who enjoys working as part of a team and takes pride in making a difference to children's school experience? Would you love to work in a welcoming village school environment, helping to provide delicious, nutritious meals for our children?
Nestled in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, Barley Barkway First Schools Federation brings together two small village schools with strong community roots and a shared commitment to giving every child the very best start. We are looking for a dedicated and positive Catering Assistant to join our team from January 2027, based at Barley School, with responsibility for supporting the Cook at our Barkway School kitchen and the transportation of lunches to Barley School.
This is a lovely opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and understands the importance of a welcoming, friendly lunchtime experience. Working alongside our Federation Cook, you will help with the preparation and serving of meals, kitchen duties, cleaning and maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety. Most importantly, you will play an important part in ensuring our children enjoy a happy, positive and well-organised lunchtime.
As part of our federation, you will become part of a supportive and friendly team working across two small village schools. We value teamwork, flexibility, a positive attitude and a willingness to help wherever needed. Previous catering experience would be an advantage, but just as important are enthusiasm, reliability and a genuine enjoyment of working in a school environment (appropriate training will be provided).
We warmly encourage prospective applicants to find out more about our federation by visiting our website: www.barleybarkway.herts.sch.uk. A tour of Barley Barkway Schools and an opportunity to meet with the Headteacher are warmly welcomed. We would love to show you our schools, introduce you to our team and answer any questions you may have.
If you are looking for a rewarding role where you can contribute to the daily life of two lovely village schools, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Come and join our team and help make lunchtime a special part of every child's school day!
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and shortlisted candidates will be asked to share any relevant criminal history prior to interview.
The successful applicant will also be subject to enhanced DBS and barred list checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
