About the role

Reedings Junior Reedings Junior School is a vibrant, happy school located in the idyllic small town of Sawbridgeworth.  It is a maintained school for children aged 7 to 11 years old, the majority of whom come from Fawbert and Barnards Infants School, a short walk away.

Reedings benefits from extensive gardens, grounds and open spaces including two courtyards, two basketball/netball/tennis courts, a picnic area, an outdoor gym and a gym trail - backing onto the River Stort and benefitting from beautiful views of the surrounding countryside.

There are currently 246 pupils on roll.  Each year group is divided into two mixed ability classes, normally with 30 pupils in each.  Our teachers are experienced and motivated and we have an excellent and committed team of support staff.

We have a role available for either a class based Teaching Assistant, or a role supporting a child on a 1:1 basis with additional needs to succeed in education. You will require patience, flexibility and be committed to helping children develop as independent and confident individuals. It would be desirable, but not essential, that you have experience in this type of role.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be able to work closely with the class teacher, the SENCo and external advisors. You should be keen to learn, be able to work on your own initiative, and carry out advice consistently.

The successful candidate will have a GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths (C or above) and a high standard of written and spoken English.

In return we offer the successful candidate:

  • A positive and caring working environment
  • A friendly, dedicated and supportive staff team
  • A well-resourced working environment
  • A strong commitment to CPD with quality mentoring and development support

The role is for 28 hours 45 minutes per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 3.15pm, term time only.

This is a fixed term contract for one year, with the possibility to extend.

Reedings Junior School is committed to safeguarding children and promoting the welfare of children and young people (in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023), and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and demonstrate it in all aspects of their work. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, Children’s Barred list check and references will be sought prior to the appointment start date. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a Criminal Record Declaration Form prior to interview and an online search will be carried out to identify any safeguarding issues.

We are an equal opportunities employer and have clear procedures for child protection. We follow safer recruitment guidelines when advertising and employing new staff.

The successful candidate would also be expected to take on an MSA role for 2.50 hours per week (30 minutes each day).
