About the role
Cover Matron
Casual; Variable hours
Closing date: 30 September 2026 at 12 noon
Haileybury is seeking to appoint enthusiastic, caring and empathetic individuals to join our bank of Cover Matrons, providing support across the School’s Houses when regular Matrons are absent.
Role
Reporting to the Assistant Head (Welfare and Compliance), the cover Matrons play an important role in supporting the wellbeing, pastoral care and day-to-day needs of pupils within the School Houses. Working alongside House Masters and Mistresses, you will help to create a positive, supportive and welcoming House environment that enables pupils to thrive both personally and academically.
The role is varied and requires someone who can work flexibly and adapt quickly to different House environments. Cover may be required at short notice and can range from a single day or two to shorter or longer periods, depending on the needs of the School.
You will work closely with pupils, parents, colleagues and, where appropriate, external agencies, responding to individual pupil needs and supporting their wellbeing. The role can be fast-paced and occasionally challenging, so the ability to remain calm, approachable and professional is essential.
A high level of care and discretion is required when dealing with safeguarding and child protection matters, as well as confidential personal and medical information. Full training and an induction programme will be provided, together with ongoing opportunities for professional development to ensure that you remain up to date with relevant guidance and best practice.
This is a casual position, with no fixed working pattern or guaranteed hours. However, it is anticipated that there will be regular opportunities to provide cover during term time. The role offers flexibility for individuals who are able to work on an ad hoc basis and respond to the School’s changing needs.
Please see the candidate brief for further information.
