About the role

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable and confident Cover Supervisor with PE Support to join our school team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people, can build positive relationships with students and colleagues, and is able to create a calm and purposeful environment for learning.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the short-term absence of their usual teacher, ensuring that students remain engaged, safe and focused on the work provided.

The role will also include teaching PE cover lessons and supporting the PE Faculty when required. You will work closely with the Staff/Cover Manager and teaching staff to ensure continuity of learning and high standards of student behaviour.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising students and ensuring that work set by teachers is completed effectively.

  • Managing student behaviour in line with school policies and maintaining a positive classroom environment.

  • Taking attendance and maintaining relevant student records using Class Charts.

  • Collecting completed work and ensuring it is passed to the appropriate teacher.

  • Responding to students' questions about classroom routines and procedures.

  • Dealing appropriately with immediate problems or emergencies.

  • Providing PE cover lessons and supporting the PE Faculty when required.

  • Supporting external cover staff where appropriate

  • Following all safeguarding and child protection procedures.

  • Undertaking administrative duties and other appropriate tasks when not required for cover.

  • Contributing to the development of effective systems and strategies that enhance learning during cover lessons.

  • Taking responsibility for an additional whole-school responsibility focused on supporting student outcomes or wellbeing.

About You

We are looking for someone who is positive, dependable and well organised, with excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with young people.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience of working in a school environment or with young people.

  • Experience of delivering PE or sports activities.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A positive and professional approach.

  • The ability to work independently and take responsibility for tasks through to completion.

  • Good organisational and prioritisation skills.

  • A strong work ethic and excellent punctuality.

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • A willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing priorities.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and develop positive professional relationships with colleagues.

Previous school experience and PE experience are desirable, but we are particularly interested in applicants who are enthusiastic, communicate well and are open to learning and developing within the role.
