About the role

Prae Wood Primary & Nursery School is a successful and thriving two-form entry school, with a nursery, situated to the north of St. Albans. We have a dedicated, inspirational and enthusiastic team of staff who are fully committed to providing children with the very best learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom. We have a strong whole school team ethos and we are committed to developing individuals through providing wide-ranging CPD opportunities. We are a ‘good’ school (Ofsted 2019) with ‘outstanding’ leadership & management, ‘outstanding’ provision in our Early Years Foundation Stage and 'outstanding' behaviour & pastoral care.

We remain committed to being a fully inclusive school and as such we are invested in thoroughly understanding and meeting the needs of all our children. More recently, we have seen an increase for early intervention and identification of need as well as complexity of need amongst our youngest children. As such our experienced SENDCo requires support to manage their increasing workload and our expanding team of learning support assistants.

Therefore, we are seeking to appoint an experienced, committed and qualified SENDCo with a background and knowledge of Early Years and KS1 in particular. You must be passionate about inclusion, be willing to fully take on the vision and ethos of our school and be prepared to work collaboratively with all members of the senior leadership team, staff, parents and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for our very youngest pupils with emerging or additional needs.

The role is part-time working across five mornings, although this may be flexible at times to accommodate professional meetings and EHCP review meetings. Due to budget constraints this role is initially for two academic years in the first instance starting in September 2024.

Visits to the school are actively encouraged so please contact the school office to book a tour with a member of the SLT. Please also visit our school website, which offers comprehensive up-to-date information regarding the curriculum and children's experiences of life at Prae Wood, as well as a virtual tour.

Prae Wood Primary & Nursery School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, as well as other pre-appointment checks outlined in KCSIE (Sept 2023) and satisfactory references.

We are committed to being an anti-racist organisation, and our recruitment statement is set out below in support of this.

Prae Wood Primary & Nursery School  is committed to being an equal opportunities employer. We insist on the equal treatment of all current and prospective colleagues and will never condone discrimination on the basis of age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity, or marriage and civil partnership.

To help us meet our high standards and aspirations of a fully diverse and inclusive workplace, we strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply and to join us.

Please note applications may be considered while posts are being advertised and we reserve the right to close the vacancy sooner than the advertised date.
