Home-School Tutoring (HST) Hertfordshire & Cambridgeshire is a large, dynamic, and fast-growing tutoring agency. We are a key strategic partner for Local Authorities and schools, currently providing bespoke educational packages for over 150 young people with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We also work with many school across Hertfordshire & Cambridgeshire as well as working directly with families. Our work is fast-paced, high-impact, and dedicated to ensuring that every student, regardless of their barriers to learning, has a pathway to success.
Our new exam centre is based in Wheathampstead, it is expected that you will work from here, a dedicated office space is available.
The Role
As we continue to expand our provision, we are looking for a motivated, qualified teacher with proven school leadership experience to join us as our Exams Manager.
This is an exciting new role within the agency where you will take ownership of leading our qualifications department. You will be responsible for overseeing all examinations and qualifications taken by our students, while driving the strategic project to establish HST Herts & Cambs as a fully accredited exam centre.
Qualifications & Leadership: You must be a Qualified Teacher (QTS) with previous experience in a school leadership or management role.
Exam Centre Experience: Direct, prior experience managing an exam centre is not strictly essential; however, you must be a fast learner who is willing to quickly master examination regulations, compliance and accreditation processes to build the centre from the ground up.
Autonomy & Drive: You will need to be highly self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working entirely without close direction, taking full ownership of the department while keeping the directors updated with regular progress reports.

Key Responsibilities
Accreditation & Registration: Lead the process of setting the agency up as a registered exam centre with the JCQ and registering with various exam boards to facilitate Functional Skills, GCSEs, iGCSEs, and A-Levels.
Qualification Oversight: Manage the delivery and administration of our current suite of qualifications including ASDAN, Arts Award, and AQA Unit Award Schemes.
Operational Management: Oversee student applications, manage exam entries, and provide accurate costings for exam fees to stakeholders.
Access Arrangements: Work closely with our SENCO and Access Arrangements Assessor to ensure all Access Arrangements (Form 9s, readers, extra time, etc.) are evidenced, approved, and implemented correctly.
Coordination & Liaison: Act as the central point of contact for families, tutors, schools and Local Authority stakeholders to ensure all logistics are in place.
Invigilation: Oversee the coordination of both in-centre examinations and home-based invigilation where required.
Candidate Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status
School leadership or management experience.
Strategic Thinking: The ability to navigate the complexities of centre registration and policy writing.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to support anxious students and provide clarity to parents and local authorities.
Resilience: The ability to thrive in a busy, "live" environment where requirements can change quickly.
SEND Knowledge: An understanding of the unique requirements of students with EHCPs and complex needs is highly desirable.
What We Offer
While you will have significant autonomy in this role, you will be fully supported by our Directors and our well established Alternative Provision team. You will be joining a team that is passionate about alternative provision and making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable young people.
Hours
· Contract Type: Employed position, initial 12-month contract (subject to review and extension).
· Hours: 20 hours per week, with potential for overtime during busy periods (e.g., exam season).
· Working Pattern: Term time only (39 weeks per year).
· Salary: £83,200 FTE per annum. Actual salary (based on 20 hours/39 weeks) is £31,200 per year.
· Location: Based in our new exam centre building in Wheathampstead.
· Benefits: Provision of a work laptop and work phone, plus a private pension.
