We are proud of our caring ethos, our high expectations and the sense of belonging that runs through every part of school life. At St Michael’s, children are known, valued and encouraged to flourish academically, socially and spiritually. Staff are equally valued, supported and encouraged to grow, creating a workplace where collaboration, reflection and wellbeing are at the centre of what we do.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a school where teaching is both purposeful and rewarding. As our Class Teacher, you will help create an engaging, inclusive and nurturing learning environment where every child can thrive. Working across in Reception class, you will bring creativity, care and strong professional knowledge to your classroom practice, while contributing positively to the wider life of the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bring a secure understanding of the EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum to support smooth progression across phases.

  • Use your knowledge of child development to shape learning that is ambitious, inclusive and responsive to the needs of all pupils.

  • Adapt teaching thoughtfully to support children with SEND, EAL and disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring every learner can access success.

  • Use assessment with confidence to inform planning, spot next steps quickly and secure strong progress for all pupils.

  • Build a calm, positive and well-organised classroom environment where children feel safe, respected and ready to learn.

  • Develop warm and trusting relationships with pupils, promoting wellbeing, confidence and positive behaviour.

  • Work closely with parents and carers, communicating clearly and positively to strengthen each child’s learning journey.

  • Contribute to a supportive team culture, sharing ideas, reflecting on practice and working collaboratively across year groups and phases.

  • Take an active role in the wider life of the school and uphold our strong commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children.

The Person

We are looking for a thoughtful, skilled and caring teacher who shares our belief that every child deserves to feel known, supported and inspired. You will bring energy, professionalism and a genuine commitment to helping children succeed, alongside the flexibility and team spirit needed to thrive in a vibrant primary school setting.

We’re Looking For:

  • Experience teaching in EYFS and/or Key Stage 1, with an understanding of how learning develops across the primary phases.

  • A secure knowledge of both the EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum.

  • The ability to plan and deliver high-quality lessons that are engaging, inclusive and matched to pupils’ needs.

  • High expectations for behaviour, progress and attainment, with a clear commitment to raising standards.

  • An understanding of early child development and how this supports effective learning beyond the EYFS.

  • Confidence in adapting teaching for pupils with a range of needs, including SEND, EAL and disadvantaged pupils.

  • A reflective approach to assessment, using observations, checks for understanding and other assessment methods to inform next steps.

  • The ability to create a positive, purposeful and well-resourced learning environment, including outdoor learning where relevant.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build respectful, supportive relationships with children and families.

  • A collaborative mindset, with a willingness to contribute to team planning, school events and shared practice.

  • A proactive approach to professional development, with openness to feedback and a desire to keep improving.

  • A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
