About the role
We are looking to appoint Governors to join our Governing Body at Watling View School. No prior experience is necessary as training and support will be given. We are a special school for 119 pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Profound and Multiple Difficulties (PMLD).
Becoming a Governor is a rewarding experience and will allow you to use your skills to have a positive impact on the education of the pupils, where you can truly make a difference. You may take on different challenges as you work as part of a well-established Governing Body.

The Role of the Governing Body
The school’s Governing Body is responsible for providing confident and strategic leadership, and creating robust accountability, oversight and assurance for the school’s educational and financial performance. The Governing Body is passionate about education and committed to continuous school improvement to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
The Role of a Co-Opted Governor
As a Governor, you’ll work with the Full Governing Body (FGB) to make sure it effectively carries out the duties referred to above.
To be a Governor you should have:
A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for all pupils
Good interpersonal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills
The Governing Body is keen for candidates to have skills in the following areas, although this is not a definitive list and we would welcome applicants with skills outside of these areas:
Teaching and Learning
HR
Legal
Expectations of Governors
To fulfil the role, you will need to:
attend regular meetings (around 6 each year)
visit the school on additional occasions as needed (usual once per term)
take part in induction training and ongoing development (which will be provided for you)
be fully committed to the ongoing success of the school
possess the desire to improve outcomes for all students
be willing to focus on the needs of all pupils
be able to represent the diverse backgrounds and perspectives that make up the Watling View School
be able to bring an open mind and strong listening and interpersonal skills
