About the role

Head of Learning

Are you a passionate and experienced pastoral leader ready to make a significant impact on student lives? We are seeking an exceptional Head of Learning to join our dedicated team and drive outstanding student behaviour, attendance, punctuality, and discipline. This pivotal leadership role is central to fostering a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment where every student can achieve their full personal and educational potential.

About the Role

As our Head of Learning, you'll be instrumental in shaping the holistic development of our students. You'll work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the Pastoral Team, and the Behaviour and Welfare Team to strategically oversee and operationally manage student welfare and pastoral care across your designated year group. This isn't just about managing behaviour; it's about nurturing well-rounded individuals who are prepared for success in all aspects of life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Student Progress, Behaviour & Welfare: Lead the charge in securing outstanding behaviour for learning, significantly improving attendance and punctuality, and implementing targeted interventions to raise standards across the academy. You'll champion the intrinsic link between academic achievement and personal development.

  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Improvement: Systematically monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pastoral interventions, using data and insights to drive continuous improvement in student conduct and well-being.

  • Partnership & Community Engagement: Build strong, collaborative relationships with parents/carers, external agencies, and the wider community to ensure comprehensive support for our students.

  • Staff Support & Development: Empower and support staff in managing student needs, fostering positive relationships, and contributing to students' social, moral, spiritual, and cultural development.

  • Leadership & Management: Demonstrate exceptional leadership, manage allocated budgets, and ensure effective communication with the Senior Leadership Team and Governors on all pastoral matters. You'll also play a key role in promoting enrichment programmes.

What We're Looking For:

You'll be an inspirational leader with a proven track record in a pastoral leadership role within a secondary school.

You should have:

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential, with a Leadership/Management qualification and Designated Safeguarding Lead qualification being desirable. Up-to-date Safeguarding training is a must.

  • Experience: Significant experience in improving student behaviour, attendance, and welfare, leading and motivating teams, and working effectively with parents/carers and external agencies. You'll be comfortable with data analysis to inform interventions.

  • Skills & Abilities: Outstanding communication, leadership, and organisational skills. You'll be analytical, solution-focused, resilient, and empathetic, with a clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Proficiency in school management information systems (e.g., Arbor) is also key.

  • Personal Qualities: A clear commitment to our academy’s vision and values, a passion for student well-being, high expectations, and a proactive, adaptable approach. You'll thrive as part of a wider leadership team.
