About the role
Start the summer term 2027 leading a new school.
Bournehall is a caring, nurturing and vibrant maintained primary school at the heart of its Bushey community. When visiting the school, you will notice the calm atmosphere, engaged children and warmth of the relationships across the school. Families place considerable confidence in us, reflected in strong demand for our Reception places.
Our staff are experienced, friendly and committed. Many have served the school for more than a decade, while newer colleagues benefit from their knowledge and support. This is not a team that stands still: staff are creative, receptive to development and trusted to take ownership of their work.
As our current Headteacher prepares to retire, they leave a strong legacy, including stable finances, significant investment, a confident senior leadership team and an effective administration team. Bournehall is therefore in a position of strength. We are not seeking a leader to arrive with an instant transformation plan. Instead, we are looking for someone who will take the time to listen, understand and build relationships, before working with the whole school community to shape Bournehall’s next stage and build on the success already achieved.
You may be an ambitious deputy seeking your first headship or an experienced Headteacher attracted by the opportunity to lead a community-focused maintained primary school. What matters most is that you are children-centred, inclusive and confident enough to trust others. You will bring strategic clarity without unnecessary complexity, lead change with people rather than around them and combine empathy with the ability to act firmly when required.
Your priorities will include developing Early Years and Key Stage 1, responding to the changing needs of pupils requiring additional support and continuing to embed clear, sustainable school processes. As Bournehall is the lead school for DSPL9 (Delivering Special Provision Locally) and SWHP (South West Herts Partnership), the role also offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to wider local provision by overseeing both partnerships alongside their experienced management teams. You will be supported by capable leaders, committed staff and a confident governing board.
We welcome applications from leaders at different career stages and are open to discussing flexible or part-time working as well as a full-time appointment. Details of preferred hours should be stated in the personal statement and will be discussed further at interview.
We strongly encourage you to visit Bournehall, meet our children and staff, and experience the school’s distinctive atmosphere for yourself. To book a time to visit us please contact the school office on 020 8950 4438 or email us at [email protected]

Please note late applications will not be considered.
Bournehall Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check as well as other pre-appointment checks, including an online check, as outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (September 2026).
We believe that a diverse team leads to better outcomes and a more enriching workplace. We are committed to fostering a culture where everyone feels they belong.
