Grade H4 |St peter's Church of England (VA) Primary School Rickmansworth
Salary: H4
Hours: 22.5 a week
Contract: initially fixed term for 1 year
Start date: ASAP
Good support starts with understanding: what a pupil already knows, where they are struggling, and what will help them take the next step.
We are looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant who brings that understanding to their work, alongside clear communication, calm leadership and thoughtful judgement. You will be working 8.30 to 1 Monday to Friday in a KS2 class
At St Peter's, you will work with teachers to support individuals, small groups and whole classes. You will adapt activities, contribute to assessment and provide specialist support that helps pupils engage with learning and become more independent.
The role
Under the professional direction of a qualified teacher, you will lead agreed learning activities and supervise whole classes undertaking pre-prepared work, including PPA and cover supervision.
You will also:
Adapt resources and learning activities to meet pupils’ needs, checking their understanding and adjusting your approach.
Plan and evaluate specialist learning activities with teachers.
Assess, record and report on pupils’ progress, using observations to inform their next steps.
Maintain clear expectations for behaviour and support pupils’ social and emotional wellbeing.
Contribute to individual learning plans and reviews, working with colleagues, families and other professionals as appropriate.
Help create safe, purposeful learning environments and support pupils’ independence throughout the school day.
The role includes specialist support in at least one area: special educational needs, English as an additional language, support for gifted and talented pupils, or a curriculum subject such as literacy or numeracy. We would welcome details of the expertise you could bring.
About you
You will know how to explain an idea clearly, recognise when a pupil needs a different approach and keep a group focused on learning. You will be able to follow agreed plans while making appropriate decisions within your role, referring complex issues to the teacher.
We are looking for someone with:
Relevant experience working towards the appropriate standards, or equivalent experience in supporting teaching and learning.
The skills to motivate pupils and support positive behaviour, including knowledge of behaviour management approaches.
Clear communication and the ability to build constructive relationships with pupils and adults.
An understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and health and safety responsibilities.
The flexibility to respond to different learning needs and contribute effectively to a team.
Above all, you will take pupils’ learning seriously. You will notice the small signs of progress, ask useful questions and help children develop the confidence and skills to do more for themselves.
St Peter's reserves the right to withdraw this ad if the right candidate is found.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and shortlisted candidates will be asked to share any relevant criminal history prior to interview.
The successful applicant will also be subject to enhanced DBS and barred list checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
