About the role
At SPACE Hertfordshire, we understand that some families need more than information or signposting—they need someone to walk alongside them through the challenges they face. As our Higher Needs Family Support Worker, you will provide intensive, person-centred support to families of neurodivergent children and young people with SEND who are experiencing more complex or acute needs. This role is across county and will require some travel in and around Hertfordshire.
Working directly with families in their homes, within the community and across a range of settings, you will build trusted relationships, helping parents and carers navigate education, health and social care systems, overcome barriers and develop their confidence and skills to support them advocating for their children and young people.
You will lead on higher-needs referrals, ensuring families receive timely, flexible and coordinated support. Alongside direct family work, you will support the day-to-day coordination of the Family Support Service, assisting with referral management, triage and caseload allocation.
The successful candidate will have exceptional relationship-building, active listening and conflict resolution skills, enabling them to work confidently with families while maintaining positive and productive relationships with professionals and partner agencies.
As an ambassador for SPACE Hertfordshire, you will embody our values of compassion, collaboration, inclusion and professionalism, helping to create positive, lasting change for children, young people and their families.
Our Charity is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and shortlisted candidates will be asked to share any relevant criminal history prior to interview.
The successful applicant will also be subject to enhanced DBS and barred list checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
