About the role

We are looking to expand our team of invigilators with specific ability to perform the IT aspect of the role. Successful candidates will have a genuine interest in supporting our students to perform to the best of their ability.

Main duties

To conduct examinations in accordance with the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), awarding body and Katherine Warington School regulations and instructions.

To have a key role in upholding the integrity and security of the external examination/assessment process.

Before examinations

The IT Invigilator should:

  • report to and be briefed by the exams officer prior to each exam session

  • keep confidential exam question papers and materials secure before, during and after exams

  • Setup IT equipment and software for students who have Access Arrangements.

  • Ensure exam rooms are set up in time according to the requirements and generic exam accounts are logged in.

  • Check Students have the correct IT Setup for Exams e.g Spellcheck on or off as required.

  • Work with the Examinations Officer to copy/move files in their correct secure location.

  • Setup/display clocks in the classroom interactive board where exams are taking place.

  • Ensure exam printers are properly set up, have sufficient paper and toner.

  • Admit candidates into exam rooms under formal examination conditions

  • Give full attention to conducting the examinations properly

  • Identify candidates and seat them according to the required arrangements

  • Distribute the correct question papers and exam materials to candidates

  • Instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams

  • Deal with candidate questions

  • Start exams

During examinations

The IT Invigilator should:

  • Supervise and observe candidates at all times and be vigilant throughout

  • Keep disruption in examination rooms to a minimum

  • Deal with emergencies or irregularities effectively

  • Record/report any incidents, disruption or irregularities

  • Complete attendance registers

  • Deal with candidate questions according to the regulations

After examinations

The IT Invigilator should:

  • Instruct candidates in finishing their examinations and collect examination scripts and materials

  • Ensure exams sheets are printed, signed and saved on the network.

  • Prepare the generic exam account for the next set of exams.

  • Dismiss candidates from the examination room

  • Check candidates’ names on scripts, match the details on the attendance register

  • Securely return all examination scripts and materials to the exams officer

Above all, we are looking for reliable, flexible and enthusiastic individuals with a calming influence and an eye for detail. The ability to communicate clearly and accurately with both students and staff is also key, as is the ability to follow set instructions both as part of a team and on an individual basis. Other qualities we are looking for include punctuality and a common sense approach.

You will be employed on a term time only, flexible basis during exam periods. Shift patterns will vary, but applicants will need to be available for am/pm sessions (with 8.00am and 12.30pm start times) during this academic year's exam season.
