Lead Teacher – SEND / SEMH Unit

Westfield Primary School & Nursery is seeking an exceptional, passionate and experienced teacher to become the Lead Teacher of our brand-new SEND Unit, The Nest.
This is a genuinely exciting time to join our school. The unit has been built and is ready for the next stage of its journey: furnishing, resourcing and, most importantly, welcoming its first children.
We are looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to take what is currently a wonderful new space and turn it into a vibrant, nurturing and ambitious learning environment where children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs can feel safe, successful and valued.
This is not an established provision where you simply inherit existing systems and routines. You will have the opportunity to help shape them. Working closely with our Headteacher, SENCo and wider team, you will play a central role in establishing the ethos, curriculum, routines and inclusive practice that will underpin the unit for years to come.
Our specialist provision will support approximately 12 pupils with SEMH needs within our inclusive mainstream primary school. The purpose-built unit will provide a calm and welcoming specialist environment while remaining firmly connected to the wider school community.
As our Lead Teacher, you will be at the heart of establishing and developing this provision. You will combine excellent classroom practice with strong leadership, vision and collaboration, creating personalised learning pathways and helping pupils develop emotionally, socially and academically. You will also lead and support the team, build positive relationships with families and professionals, and champion inclusive practice across the wider school.
We are looking for a teacher who holds QTS and has substantial experience of working with pupils with SEND, particularly SEMH. You will understand the importance of relational and trauma-informed approaches, have experience of working with EHCPs and personalised provision, and possess the resilience, creativity and emotional intelligence needed to help children thrive. Experience in a specialist setting, resource base or SEND unit would be advantageous.
