Learning Support Assistant Term time only Salary: H3:5 Hours: 8.30 - 15.30 Location: Garston Manor School, Watford, WD25 _________________________________________________________________________ Main Purpose of the Role To provide high-quality support to pupils aged 11–16 with a range of additional needs, enabling them to access learning and achieve their full potential within a special school setting. Key Responsibilities • Support pupils individually or in small groups, adapting to their unique learning styles and needs • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to foster engagement, wellbeing, and independence • Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to deliver tailored interventions and learning activities • Assist with classroom management and the implementation of behaviour support strategies • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom and wider school community • Support pupils’ personal development and social skills • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and contribute to reviews and planning meetings • Provide support with personal care if required, in line with individual pupil needs • Communicate effectively with pupils, staff, and parents/carers • Work as part of a collaborative team, participating in staff meetings, training, and continuous professional development • Uphold the school’s commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing, and equality at all times _________________________________________________________________________ Person Specification Qualifications and training • Good standard of general education (GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths) is desirable • Commitment to ongoing professional development Experience • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational or special needs setting • Experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs (desirable) Skills and knowledge • Ability to build positive relationships with young people • Adaptable approach to meet individual learning styles and needs • Effective communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures Personal qualities • Compassionate, patient, and resilient • High expectations for all pupils, with a commitment to helping every child succeed • Flexible and proactive approach • Commitment to upholding the ethos and values of Garston Manor School • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges ________________________________________ Safeguarding Statement Garston Manor School (Watford, WD25) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
