About the role

Skyswood Primary & Nursery School are looking to appoint a music teacher from September 2025 to teach weekly music lessons across the breadth of Key Stages 1 and 2. We are looking for somebody who is passionate about the teaching of music and confident to take on the role of leading music throughout our school.

The post is for one and a half days per week and involves teaching each Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 class for one hour of music per week. In addition to this, the successful candidate will deliver one short, 20-minute, music assembly to Key Stages 1 and 2 per week.

Our successful candidate will be paid for 8 hours per week to cover the 6 hours teaching provision, along with the weekly assembly and factoring in reasonable planning and preparation time. For any candidate interested in delivering additional opportunities, such as a school choir (lunch time or after school) then additional hours up to 10 hours per week are negotiable.

Our school is a friendly and welcoming teaching and learning environment. Our children have extremely positive attitudes towards learning and value their opportunities in music throughout their time at Skyswood. Our staff are a fantastic team. We enrich our core provision in music with many additional experiences; such as Christmas performances, Upper Junior productions at the Sandpit Theatre, the Alban Arena Concert and the Hertfordshire Royal Albert Hall Gala Concert (usually once every two years). Although the post on offer is to deliver the core curriculum provision for music across Key Stages 1 and 2, with the right candidate, we are very open to negotiation for involvement in the wider enrichment opportunities for music across the school.

Visits are welcome and warmly encouraged. The start date could be negotiated for after half-term in October 2025 for any suitable candidates unable to start at the beginning of September 2025.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible as the school reserves the right to close the advert should we feel able to appoint an appropriate candidate.
