About the role

Join a school where relationships change lives.

Haywood Grove is a specialist SEMH primary school in Hemel Hempstead. We work with children who have experienced adversity, trauma, disrupted education and significant barriers to learning. Our approach is rooted in nurture, curiosity, belonging and high aspirations.

We are seeking a caring, adaptable and reliable person to join our team as a Minibus Driver and Learning Mentor.

This is a unique role combining the responsibility of safely transporting children for a variety of reasons with the opportunity to build meaningful relationships that support their confidence, wellbeing and success.

For many of our children, their journeys can make a difference to their day. We are looking for someone who understands that these moments matter.

The Role

You will:

  • Safely transport pupils using the school minibus. This may include journeys too and from school or other journeys to different locations associated with the curriculum.

  • Complete vehicle checks and ensure the minibus is maintained and ready for use.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children and families.

  • Support pupils throughout the school day as a Learning Mentor.

  • Help children regulate emotions, develop social skills and engage successfully in learning.

  • Work alongside teachers, therapists and support staff as part of a highly relational team.

  • Support enrichment activities, outdoor learning and educational visits where required.

  • Be a positive, calm and consistent adult presence for children who may find school challenging.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a full, clean driving licence (with D1 entitlement or willingness to obtain appropriate training).

  • Enjoys working with children and young people.

  • Is patient, calm and emotionally resilient.

  • Understands the importance of relationships and restorative approaches.

  • Can remain positive and solution-focused when situations are challenging.

  • Works well as part of a team.

  • Shares our belief that every child deserves to feel safe, valued and successful.

Previous experience working with children, young people, education, youth work, care, coaching or mentoring would be advantageous but is not essential.

What We Offer

  • A highly supportive and welcoming team.

  • Extensive training in trauma-informed and relational practice.

  • Opportunities to develop mentoring, therapeutic and behaviour support skills.

  • Access to professional development and career progression.

  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to children’s lives every day.

  • A school community that values kindness, teamwork and innovation.

At Haywood Grove, we are proud to be special and proud to be different. We are looking for people who share our commitment to helping every child belong, grow and realise their potential.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed.

Haywood Grove School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS and safeguarding checks.
