About the role

Become a Governor at Puller CoE Memorial School

Make a difference in our local community

Puller Memorial School is a caring village school where our vision is to 'encourage one another and build each other up'

As a governor, you can help shape the future of our school and support the best outcomes for all pupils.

Why become a governor?

  • Make a positive impact on children's lives

  • Support your local village school

  • Develop leadership, strategic planning and financial skills

  • Gain valuable experience and meet new people

  • Work as part of a friendly and supportive team

No previous experience in education or governance is needed and full training and support are provided.

Most meetings take place in the evening, making the role flexible and manageable alongside other commitments.

What does a school governor do?

Governors work alongside the Headteacher and school leadership team to help the school achieve its vision and provide the best possible opportunities for all pupils.

As a governor, you may:

  • Help shape the school's vision, values and future direction

  • Support and challenge school leaders to ensure the best outcomes for pupils

  • Monitor the school's progress and performance

  • Contribute to decisions about the school's budget and how resources are used

  • Listen to the views of parents, pupils, staff and the wider community

  • Attend governing body meetings, read relevant information and contribute to discussions. These are one every half term; alternating in person and online.

  • Get to know the school and, where possible, visit during the school day. Typically half days, around 3 times in the academic year.

  • Take part in induction and ongoing training

Governors do not manage the school's day-to-day operations. Instead, they have a strategic role, working with school leaders to provide support, challenge and oversight.

Could you make a difference?

You don't need to be an education expert to become a governor. We are looking for people who care about children and their local community, are willing to listen and learn, and can contribute positively as part of a team.

Whether you are a parent, local resident, professional or simply someone who would like to give something back to the community, we would love to hear from you.
