Summary of the Role 

The Young Person Mentor provides direct, consistent and high-quality support to Young People (aged 10- 18 years) with Special Educational Needs (SEN) through 1:1 and small group provision across Future Youth Inspired.

Young Person Mentors build trusted relationships that enable Young People to feel safe, understood and capable. The Mentor supports the development of confidence, emotional regulation, engagement in learning and personal growth, adapting provision to meet individual strengths, needs and circumstances.

Future Youth Inspired is looking for a calm, reflective and committed professional who understands that progress looks different for every Young Person and is prepared to meet them where they are - providing structure, encouragement and appropriate challenge to support long-term, meaningful outcomes.

Delivery of Mentoring & Enrichment Provision

  • Deliver structured, purposeful mentoring and enrichment sessions to Young People with Special Educational Needs (SEN), tailored to individual needs and agreed outcomes.

  • Plan and adapt sessions to ensure they are engaging, developmentally appropriate and aligned with each Young Person’s bespoke provision plan.

Emotional Regulation & Educational Engagement

  • Support Young People to develop emotional regulation strategies, resilience and confidence.

  • Promote engagement in education, learning and personal development through consistent, relational practice and appropriate challenge.

Recording, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, timely and professional session reports in line with the provision and local authority’s requirements.

  • Contribute to progress reporting by evidencing impact, development and next steps clearly and objectively.

Collaborative Working

  • Work collaboratively with internal colleagues, schools and local authorities to ensure consistency of approach and shared understanding of each Young Person’s needs.

  • Contribute constructively to reviews, meetings and multi-agency discussions where required.

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Uphold safeguarding, health and safety and compliance standards at all times.

  • Recognise, record and report safeguarding concerns promptly and in accordance with policy.

  • Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and ethical practice in all aspects of the role.

Experience required

  • Proven experience, in a professional capacity, supporting Young People with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures, statutory responsibilities and professional boundaries.

  • A calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach to supporting behaviour and emotional regulation.

  • A reliable, committed and proactive mindset, with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.

  • A professional attitude at all times, maintaining appropriate boundaries and ethical practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to build positive, appropriate and trusting relationships with young people.

  • An Enhanced DBS (paid). Volunteer Enhanced DBS certificates will not be accepted.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Business car insurance (essential, as the role involves transporting Young People).

We are a specialist, relationship-based one-to-one education service for Young People aged 10 to 18 years who may have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) are in need of short-term education. We support Young People who find classroom environments with other students challenging, and aim to restore their motivation for learning through creative and personalised timetables which transition them into a specialist group-focused provision or back to their on-roll mainstream school.
