This is a role for someone who can support classroom learning across Key Stages, confidently work with small groups and individuals, and contribute to our therapeutic approach to behaviour and well‑being. You will work three days a week (19.5 hours) during term time, reporting to the SENCO and supporting teachers to help pupils access the curriculum and make measurable progress.
What you'll be doing
Work with class teachers to deliver learning activities to individuals and small groups, including bespoke interventions agreed with the teacher or SENCO.
Support pupils with additional needs, including those awaiting specialist provision, within the classroom and our Forest Room.
Help assess and record pupil progress; provide constructive feedback to the class teacher.
Attend and contribute to meetings with teachers, parents/carers and external professionals as directed.
Support pupils’ personal care, health and hygiene needs and follow first-aid guidance where required.
Supervise and engage children at playtimes and lunchtimes, maintaining school expectations for behaviour and safety.
Prepare and clear learning environments and assist with educational visits when required.
Demonstrate and promote the school’s therapeutic behaviour approach and positive learning culture.
What we're looking for
Essential:
GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent) and confident literacy and numeracy skills.
Good spoken English and clear communication skills with pupils, parents and staff.
Ability to follow teacher direction and also work on your own initiative.
Reliable, well organised and punctual; able to manage time across a three‑day working pattern.
A willingness to comply with all safeguarding and child protection policies.
Desirable:
Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ in Children’s Care or Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools (or equivalent).
Previous experience working with children in EYFS or primary settings and supporting pupils with SEND.
Basic first-aid knowledge.
About the team or department
You will be part of the school’s support staff team and report to the SENCO. Day-to-day supervision is provided by class teachers and senior leaders. The role may be placed in any Key Stage and will involve close collaboration with teachers, the Pupil Support Worker and other professionals who support individual pupils.
