Meet PA to Headteacher & HR Administrator, Jo

Meet PA to Headteacher & HR Administrator, Jo

Meet Jo, PA to Headteacher & HR Administrator at Pinewood School.

Please can you describe your journey into education (How did you qualify for your role, what were the key steps, and what inspired you—did you always plan to work in education?)

I had initially joined Pinewood School as receptionist/administration in 2013.  I had always wanted to work in an Education environment after working for 8-years within the NHS.

What are they key things you love about your job?

Working as a Headteacher's PA means operating at the heart of the school community. It is a high-energy, varied role where you are at the centre of administrative operations. While the work is done quietly behind the scenes, its impact is vital. There is nothing quite like the pride of watching our Year 7s transform into independent young adults over the years, knowing your administrative support kept the school running smoothly to help get them there.

It's fast, it's busy, and it is immensely rewarding.

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to work in a similar role?

My advice to anyone looking to step into this role is to prepare for a high-energy environment where no two days are ever the same. You do need a certain set of skills, and willing to learn new things, particularly as the educational landscape evolves. It is a position that requires you to have an 'eyes everywhere' and anticipating the school's needs before they arise. Knowing which tasks take priority, ensuring absolute confidentiality, and remaining agile enough to completely change your planned workload at the last minute (which can happen often!). It demands flexibility, but if you love a fast-paced environment and want to enjoy the immense reward of watching pupils flourish from behind the scenes, this is absolutely the role for you.
