Keeping informed

Strategic Learning Networks for Languages, updates and resources

The Languages team at HfL supports half-termly Strategic Learning Networks for Languages (SLN Langs) which SLs, or their nominated representative, can access at no cost to the school.  This provides an excellent opportunity for SLs to keep up-to-date with all the news, issues and developments in the subject they lead.

The Languages team also has a blog which features articles on current pedagogy, key reading and a spotlight on a resource or books etc. Read the latest blogs

Subject Leaders are able to purchase key languages resources from Herts for Learning including the ‘Progression and Assessment pack for KS2’ and our publication ‘Target Language for the KS2 Classroom’ for French. View language resources from Herts for Learning.

The Primary Languages Quality Mark™ (PLQM) also supports subject leadership development.  The PLQM is designed to help primary schools audit, embed and evaluate their foreign language provision through a series of incremental stages that have been developed with the new curriculum for primary languages in mind.  It guides schools towards best practice and helps them meet the new national requirements as set out in the Programme of Study for KS2.

Consultancy

Many schools in Hertfordshire benefit from purchasing Languages consultancy where the Adviser works directly to support SLs, or nominated colleagues, in school to embed the school’s priorities.   You can request to bring this additional source of subject and phase expertise into your school, enabling you to maximise impact.
