Backpay for employees who have left employment since 1 April 2025

If requested by an ex-employee to do so, the Local Government Association (LGA) recommend that employers pay any monies due to that employee from 1 April 2025 to the employee’s last day of employment.

When salary arrears are paid to ex-employees who were in the LGPS, the employer must inform its local LGPS fund. Employers will need to amend the CARE and final pay figures the ex-employee has pre-April 2014 LGPS membership and/or underpin protection) accordingly. Some payroll providers will do this automatically but it is worth being mindful of this if you manage payroll internally or otherwise usually have to provide this data.

New values are shown side by side with the 2024 rates for comparison in the table below.

How to calculate an hourly rate of pay

Payment of salary and allowances is pro-rata for part-time employees and is calculated by dividing the full time salary by 37 (full-time hours) and 52.142 (full-time working weeks) then multiplying by the number of your working hours per week and paid weeks.

You can use our handy pro rata salary calculator to help you.
