About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly teaching assistant to work one to one with a pupil who has autism. Hours of employment are from 8:40am - 3.10pm, Monday - Friday, term-time only.
Purpose of the Role:
To provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The role involves supporting the child’s learning, development, and well-being in line with their EHCP targets, while promoting inclusion and access to the EYFS curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the child’s specific needs as outlined in the EHCP.

Support the child in all aspects of daily school life, including personal care if required.

Assist in the delivery of individualised learning programmes and interventions.

Foster the child’s social, emotional, and communication skills through positive interaction and structured routines.

Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to plan, implement and review progress against EHCP targets.

Adapt learning materials and activities to ensure full participation in the EYFS curriculum.

Use a range of strategies and resources to engage and motivate the child.

Monitor and record progress, behaviours, and any areas of concern, providing regular feedback to relevant staff and parents/carers.

Liaise with external professionals (e.g., Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists) as needed.

Promote the child’s independence, confidence, and self-esteem in a nurturing and inclusive environment.

Ensure the child’s safety and well-being at all times, adhering to safeguarding and health & safety policies.
Person Specification:
Essential:
-
Experience working with young children (preferably within an EYFS setting).
-
Knowledge and understanding of supporting children with SEND, especially those with EHCPs.
-
Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to behaviour management.
-
Ability to work flexibly and respond to the child’s evolving needs.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Desirable:
-
Relevant Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).

Experience working 1:1 with a child with additional needs.
-
Knowledge of early childhood development and the EYFS framework.
-
Familiarity with communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or visual timetables.
-
Training in specific SEND needs (e.g., ASD, sensory processing, speech & language).
