About the role

Sauncey Wood are looking to recruit an inspirational Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) to lead, develop and support effective practice for pupils with barriers to their learning.  In this important position, you will use a dynamic skill set as you support learners’ progress, work closely with families and play an important role in staff development. You should be confident with using data to evaluate the impact of support and interventions.

Responsibilities within this role include leading on SEND, PPG and EAL. The postholder will support the safeguarding team as a Deputy DSL.

Sauncey Wood manages an on-site Special Resource Provision (SRP) for pupils with speech and language difficulties and autism. The SRP currently provides support for ten KS1 and KS2 pupils but this will increase to twelve pupils when building works have been completed. The pupils spend the morning in the SRP, taught by a dedicated team of teaching and support staff, and are integrated into their year groups in the main school each afternoon with support from SRP staff. All pupils in the SRP have an EHCP. As Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion), you will be responsible for overseeing the quality of teaching and learning in the SRP and the performance management of the staff.

Knowledge and experience of working with the SEND Code of Practice is essential. Whilst it is our preference for the successful candidate to already hold the SENCO qualification, we will reconsider this for a strong applicant who will gain the award within three years of their appointment.

The position arises as a result of the relocation of the current post-holder.

What we offer:

  • An aspirational and nurturing environment where you can make a real difference
  • A school committed to continuous improvement
  • Happy, confident children who are eager to learn and grow
  • A dedicated, talented and friendly staff team who are ready to support you
  • Ongoing commitment to your professional development
  • A spacious, well-resourced and popular school

This position would suit an experienced SENCO who is looking to develop their experience further through overseeing the SRP, or a teacher with a wealth of experience working with SEND pupils who is seeking their first step on the leadership ladder.

This role is non-class based but there is an expectation that the postholder will provide cover when required.

Sauncey Wood is a 1 form entry primary school set in the residential area of Batford on the outskirts of Harpenden. Visits are warmly welcomed and encouraged; we would be delighted to show prospective candidates around the school so please contact Eileen Anderson, Interim Headteacher, to arrange a visit.

Sauncey Wood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check as well as other pre-appointment checks, including an online check, as outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (September 2023).

Closing date: Monday 6th May 2024, 5pm

Shortlisting: Tuesday 7th May 2024
