About the role

We are looking to expand our already existing, highly skilled team by appointing a new Behaviour Support Assistant at The Willow Centre, which is situated at The Glebe in Stevenage. You will be welcomed into an incredibly talented and supportive team who place great importance on learning from each other. You will assist leadership and teaching staff in creating a safe, nurturing environment where boundaries and consistency are paramount to supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs.

The Willow Centre supports primary school aged children who either have been, or are at risk of being, permanently excluded from their mainstream school. We are Tier 4 of the DSPL2 Behaviour Service. At Tier 4, children will have already worked with Tier 3 Outreach within their mainstream school and require a further 16 week placement at The Willow Centre. We offer a personalised holistic curriculum that is designed to equip children with many of the skills they need to succeed in a mainstream classroom. Our overall purpose is to support children to re-integrate back into their mainstream school.

Your role will be varied and will involve assisting teachers to ensure all children make progress during their time at The Willow Centre. All individuals appointed to The Willow Centre are employed by Peartree Spring Primary School and as such, will be welcomed fully into the Peartree Spring School community. A full safeguarding training and induction programme will be provided.

It is essential that you have experience of working with individuals or small groups of children with SEMH needs in a school setting. The role requires a high degree of flexibility and the ability to adapt to the ever changing needs of the children. The successful candidate will be a resilient individual who has the ability to show great empathy. Passion and enthusiasm for supporting those children often described as ‘hard to reach’, above all else, is key to the success of the role.

If you would like to work in a provision where you can make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children, then this is the role for you. No two days are the same at The Willow Centre.

Applicants should be caring, flexible, show initiative and be able to work as part of a team. You must have experience of supporting children with SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) needs and have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent.

The hours are 32 hours and 30 minutes a week, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 3.30pm, including a 30 minute daily lunch break - term time only (38 weeks).

Visits to The Willow Centre are welcomed and encouraged.
