About the role

Are you ready for the next step on your leadership journey?  The governors of Windermere Primary School are looking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to join their leadership team from September 2024.

Windermere Primary School is a friendly, diverse and culturally rich community school on the outskirts of St Albans.  We pride ourselves on our welcoming and supportive ethos.  Staff, governors and parents are committed to providing the best possible education for our children. Windermere is a friendly, safe, supportive learning community where we:

  • care for each other
  • achieve well with pride
  • respect others and their values
  • enjoy learning and achieving

We believe that children should enjoy their time in school and we support them to develop a love of learning.  Our staff provide a broad and balanced curriculum that ensures our pupils are articulate, community-focused individuals, who are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Deputy to support the Headteacher and governors in driving the school forward and in reaching new heights.  This is an exciting opportunity for an excellent teacher to develop their leadership skills in a supportive learning environment.  The Deputy role has class and subject leadership responsibility with additional leadership time in which to carry out the Deputy Head role.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a consistently good/outstanding classroom practitioner with high expectations and a proven track record of raising standards
  • Is committed to supporting the personal, social and academic development of our pupils
  • Has leadership experience as a senior teacher or phase leader
  • Has the desire and skills to support the Headteacher in shaping the future of the school
  • Is looking to make a long term, positive impact within the school, leading and supporting staff to further develop practice

In return we can offer you:

  • Friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic children
  • A staff team that is supportive, knowledgeable and welcoming
  • A well-resourced learning environment
  • Opportunities for continuing professional development
  • A supportive Governing Body
  • An enthusiastic PTA who organise a wide range of events for our families

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed. Please contact the school office to arrange a suitable time.

Applications must be on the standard application form provided. Please complete all aspects of the form fully, referencing requirements of the person specification. Be sure to evidence additional aspects such as training and qualifications together with your background and experience.

Please make sure your referees are aware of your application and that they are able to provide a swift turnaround. Preferred referees are your two most recent employers, and you should provide their official; organisation email address for us to contact. One referee will be your Headteacher or Chair of Governors.

Windermere Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Appointments to this post are subject to satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as well as other pre-appointment checks, including an online check, as outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (September 2023).

To help us meet our high standards and aspirations of a fully diverse and inclusive workplace, we strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
