About the role

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity?

Do you want to make a difference in your local community?

Are you keen to learn how a board operates and work at a strategic level?

Do you have HR or Marketing experience?

Bernards Heath Infant and Nursery School are looking to appoint new members to our highly effective Governing Body.

Our school ethos is:

Inspiring individuals to develop a positive sense of self and the skills for lifelong learning.

We are proud that in January 2022 Ofsted recognised the school’s strengths and we retained our Good rating.

Our Governing Body has three core functions for the school:

  • setting the strategic direction
  • holding the headteacher to account for improving the school
  • ensuring financial health, probity and value for money

At present we are particularly looking for people with HR or Marketing expertise. Our school is planning to reduce admissions numbers from September 2026, due to falling local birth rates, so these skills will be especially valuable. However, you would also be involved in more general governance responsibilities, working as part of a strong team that highly values culture and staff wellbeing. It’s a great opportunity to work at a strategic level whilst learning more about education from the inside.

As part of our work to be an anti-racist school we are looking to increase diversity on our Governing Board and welcome applicants who represent the broad range of ethnicities in Bernards Heath.

If you would like to find out more then please visit our school website or phone the school and we can arrange to show you around.

Bernards Heath Infant and Nursery School are committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. We also seek two professional references to ensure anyone appointed to role is suitable to work with children.
