About the role

Outreach Teacher with SEMH Specialism

The Blue Tangerine Federation, Hertfordshire

Full-time | Permanent | Highly Experienced | Qualified Teacher Status required

Are you an experienced, passionate SEND teacher who wants to make a difference beyond the classroom?

The Blue Tangerine Federation, comprising The Collett School in Hemel Hempstead and St Luke's School in Redbourn, is looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and inspiring Outreach Teacher with a specialism in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) to join our growing Outreach team.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your specialist knowledge and experience to support children and young people with SEND across mainstream schools in Hertfordshire, helping schools develop the confidence, understanding and skills to meet an increasingly complex range of needs.

About the role

Our Outreach service is built on a simple principle: successful inclusion is about understanding children's needs, removing barriers and enabling them to thrive. As an Outreach Teacher, you will work directly with mainstream schools, supporting teachers, teaching assistants and school leaders to develop effective, inclusive practice.

You will bring particular expertise in SEMH, supporting schools to better understand and respond to emotional dysregulation, anxiety, distressed behaviour, emotionally based school avoidance and pupils at risk of exclusion or placement breakdown. However, this is much more than an advisory role. We want someone who can build relationships, model excellent practice, coach colleagues and turn specialist advice into meaningful, sustainable improvements. You will also contribute to our wider Outreach offer across cognition and learning, autism, communication and interaction, helping schools respond to the diverse and increasingly complex needs of their pupils.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced, qualified teacher who:

  • Has strong SEND knowledge and significant experience of supporting pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Understands that behaviour is often a form of communication and is committed to relational, therapeutic and evidence-informed approaches.

  • Can translate specialist knowledge into practical, realistic strategies for busy mainstream classrooms.

  • Is an excellent communicator who can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families and professionals.

  • Enjoys coaching, mentoring and developing the confidence and expertise of others.

  • Is reflective, organised, adaptable and able to work independently across different school settings.

  • Is passionate about inclusion, ambitious for children with SEND and committed to improving their educational experiences and outcomes.

Experience of Outreach or advisory teaching would be an advantage, but we are equally interested in exceptional SEND practitioners who are ready to take the next step in their careers.

Why join The Blue Tangerine Federation?

Our two special schools have a strong commitment to inclusion, innovation and improving opportunities for children and young people with SEND. We believe in sharing our expertise, learning from others and working collaboratively to improve educational experiences across Hertfordshire. You will join a supportive and developing Outreach team, with opportunities to contribute to professional development, specialist practice, school-to-school collaboration and the future development of our Outreach and Inreach provision.

This is a role where your knowledge, creativity and professional judgement can make a genuine difference not just to individual pupils, but to the confidence and capability of whole school communities.
