About the role

Teaching Assistant – Inclusion and Additional Needs

Are you passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential? Are you enthusiastic, patient and committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed?

Highwood Primary School is seeking a dedicated, caring and motivated Teaching Assistant to support inclusion. We are looking for someone who shares our belief that every child deserves to feel valued, included and supported to access the curriculum, develop independence and achieve their best.

At Highwood Primary, we celebrate individual talents, promote high expectations and place children firmly at the centre of everything we do. Our children are enthusiastic and engaged, and we are proud of our welcoming, happy and diverse school community.

About the Role

Working under the guidance and supervision of class teachers and senior staff, you will provide support to pupils across the phase, working with individuals, small groups and whole classes to ensure that all children can access learning and participate fully in school life.

A key part of the role will be supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve the targets identified in their Personal Plans and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), where applicable.

You will work closely with teachers, support staff, parents, carers and other professionals to provide consistent, personalised support that enables every child to feel safe, included and ready to learn.

Key Responsibilities

· Support pupils to access the curriculum through targeted, inclusive and engaging learning activities.

· Work with individuals and small groups to deliver interventions and support progress in learning and development.

· Help pupils with SEND achieve their individual targets through appropriate strategies, resources and adaptations.

· Promote independence, confidence, communication, positive relationships and emotional well-being.

· Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and participation in classroom activities.

· Adapt learning activities and resources, under the teacher’s guidance, to meet pupils’ individual needs.

· Observe and monitor pupils’ progress, providing clear feedback to teachers and contributing to the review of individual targets.

· Work collaboratively with teachers and colleagues to create calm, purposeful and inclusive learning environments.

· Support pupils’ personal care, health and welfare needs where required.

· Uphold the school’s safeguarding procedures, policies and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

· Is positive, energetic, creative and passionate about supporting children’s learning.

· Has a genuine interest in SEND and inclusive education.

· Builds warm, trusting and respectful relationships with children.

· Is patient, understanding, organised, self-motivated and able to use their initiative.

· Has high expectations of every child’s learning, behaviour and personal development.

· Can promote positive behaviour and respond calmly and consistently to challenging situations.

· Works effectively in partnership with class teachers, colleagues, parents and carers.

· Can balance competing priorities and adapt their approach to meet individual needs.

Experience in delivering interventions, supporting individual learning targets or promoting independent learning would also be beneficial.

Above all, we welcome applicants who believe that every child can make progress when given the right support, encouragement and opportunities.

What We Can Offer You

At Highwood Primary School, you will join a dedicated and supportive team committed to making a positive difference to children’s lives.

We offer:

· A friendly, welcoming and diverse school community.

· An attractive working environment with excellent facilities.

· Well-resourced classrooms and access to appropriate learning resources.

· Calm, purposeful and engaging learning environments.

· Strong partnerships between pupils, staff, parents and carers.

· A supportive, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team.

· High-quality professional development and opportunities to develop your skills.

· The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children’s learning, confidence and life chances.
