About the role

We are seeking to appoint a permanent, full-time teaching assistant/MSA to join our small, friendly team from January 2027 (or sooner for the right candidate). The salary is offered at H3 dependent on experience. The hours are from 8.30am-3.15pm Monday-Friday term-time only.

We are looking for a caring, reliable and flexible person to work with groups and provide support to individual children. We can offer you a welcoming community, well-resourced classes and commitment to your development and training.

We would particularly like to hear from you if you are interested in working with EYFS/KS1, or if you enjoy outdoor learning (e.g. Forest School).

We are linked to another small school and have been part of a formal federation since February 2025. We enjoy the ‘family feel’ of a small setting where we get to know each child really well, along with the benefits and security that comes from being part of a larger organisation.

We are fortunate to have extensive grounds in a beautiful village. If you are interested in the role, we would love to hear from you and strongly encourage visits to our school. Please contact Mrs Karen Baker or Mrs Leanda Goulding [email protected] 01707 872395.

At Ponsbourne St Mary’s, we are committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. To help us meet our high standards and aspirations of a fully diverse and inclusive workplace, we strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply.

Ponsbourne St. Mary’s C of E Primary is a small village primary school in Newgate Street Village, not far from Hertford, Cheshunt, Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar.  We have 106 children on the school roll, aged from 3 to 11.  Our Christian ethos and values are very important to us and permeate all that we do.  Children are successfully taught in four mixed-age classes and this helps to create a family atmosphere within the school.  There has been a school on this site since 1847 and we have beautiful grounds, which include our own woodland area.  A specialist Forest Schools teacher takes the children each week and we make good use of our outdoor area across other areas of the curriculum.  The staff at Ponsbourne St. Mary’s work very well as a team and we are continually developing and improving our practice.  Having a growth mindset is extremely important to all our community.  Behaviour for learning is exemplary.  Drama and music are strengths of the school and at Christmas all classes present high-quality performances to parents.  Our active and friendly parent group, Friends of the School, raise money for the school with fun and creative events.   Wellbeing of the staff is a priority and our recent SIAMS inspection noted, 'Staff speak highly of how school leaders care for their wellbeing and workload, making them feel respected and valued.  As one summed up, ‘This school gives you a hug every day.’
