Start date: 4th Jan 2027

Loving to learn, learning to love. For every child a chance to shine.

About the role:

Layston C of E First School is a small and nurturing school set within rural Hertfordshire for children aged 4-9 years. Our school has extensive grounds where we enjoy outdoor learning, Forest School and a creative curriculum. The children are put at the centre of a compassionate Christian community. Children say they feel safe, happy and enjoy learning at Layston. The school is built on three pillars: Christian Ethos, Forest School and Nurture.

"Pupils develop resilience, patience and team-working skills during their regular sessions in the school's forest area. They demonstrate compassion and empathy by living out their school values and letting their 'light shine' out into the community, such as performing in the local area and raising money for a school abroad." (Ofsted 2026)

''Relationships between adults and pupils are exceptionally positive. There is a very strong culture of welcome and inclusion. Everyone feels cherished and all pupils and adults flourish.'' (SIAMS 2019 - judged excellent)

We are looking to appoint a part time Y3 teacher who is passionate about education to join our friendly, supportive and enthusiastic school team.  We are seeking an inspiring and innovative individual who can engage and motivate those around them. Well behaved children with a love for learning who feel they belong.

Layston School is in a beautiful rural situation on the outskirts of, and overlooking, Buntingford. The school is spacious and well resourced with a large school field and creative play areas. We have on site a forest school, wild life and pond area, allotment and sensory garden.  We run a nurture group accredited by the National Nurture Group Association. Our school is a co-educational, voluntary controlled, Church of England school. This Church connection and Christian ethos are important to the school today. The three pillars of Christian ethos, Forest School and Nurture underpin all we do enabling each child to reach their unique potential within our respectful and caring school community. Our age range is 4 to 9 years. Admission arrangements are managed by Herts County Council. We are part of a three tier system, which comprises five first schools. These First Schools feed into two Middle Schools, which are Edwinstree School in Buntingford and Ralph Sadleir School in Puckeridge. These in turn normally send children to Freman College Upper School, at the age of 13 years.
